Forest Management of Private Land Impacted by Spruce Budworm in NE Minnesota

For many years Jim Widen has worked with the NRCS in managing his forestland in Lake County, Minnesota to combat spruce budworm infestation and decrease the fire hazard. He shows how he plants young white pines, cedar, oak, and other tree species to diversify his forest. Jim's sons-in-law cut down the dead balsam fir and spruce trees while Jim uses his skidder to push the logs into piles where they are burned. Videography by Dan Balluff.
