Cook County Biochar Demonstration

Cook County & Green River Greening Biochar Demonstration

April 2, 2026 from 11:00 - 2:00 pm

In coordination with Cook County Highway
Department, Great River Greening will demonstrate the use
of biochar kilns for converting waste wood into soil
enriching biochar as a cleaner burning, alternative to open
pile burning.
GRG staff will be on-site operating a Ring of Fire biochar
kiln.

11:00 am-11:15 am: Observe Ignition 

11:15 -11:45 pm: Proper feeding of waste wood 

1:30-2:00 pm: Kiln quench, biochar assessment, uses,..

This event is open to all. Come for all or part of the
demonstration. Please register so we can communicate
changes.
